Most people these days feel like they have no time to get anything done.  Although research shows happiness remain the same once they've hit the $75,000 mark and beyond, there's still a feeling we just don't have enough time in the day to relax. Sure most people put their primary focus on their income and how they can increase over their career, but more emphasis needs to be put on how you're spending your time. Research has shown how you manage your time is a better predictor of happiness than your level of income.  It does make sense when you think about it.  You're constantly running around, commuting to your job, rushing to get things done there, then coming home to get dinner ready, run errands, etc. etc.  If you have no control over these things and find yourself reacting instead of planning ahead of time, you'll be miserable.  It's no way to live life. The average commute time in the United States is about 27 minutes, but anybody who works in New York City will tell you …

Decision Fatigue 3 e1566954730675 - 9 Amazing Tips to Fight Decision Fatigue

9 Amazing Tips to Fight Decision Fatigue

It's estimated the average person makes about 35,000 decision a day.  And about 227 of those decisions are just on food.  Most of these decisions are trivial at best, but cumulatively, it can be death by 1,000 cuts. You could be expecting an easy-going morning when you get up.  But then you realize you forgot to set out your clothes for the next day, didn't make your lunch the night before, your train is late so you have to figure out another way to get into work, etc., etc. All of these decisions so early in the morning make you susceptible to ego depletion.  You go through the motions, forced to make tens if not hundreds of decisions just from what's on your desk alone and you've realized you forgot to even eat lunch. Your energy levels are low, and when it comes to your biggest meeting of the day, your mind is in another dimension.  You're incapable of making the best decision because you've been forced to make so many decisions beforehand and your glucose levels are down …

How to Take Back Control of Your Life by Getting Some Extra Zzz’s

Sleep tends to be one of the most underrated values when it comes to success. You always read how this founder or that entrepreneur worked 20 hours a day, only getting an average of 3 hours of sleep a night for the first two years of their company's existence. Actually even this afternoon I came across this uplifting article on how awful the hours are in investment banking. A lack of sleep has become a badge of honor people proudly wear. It's as if people are oblivious to the fact they aren't getting enough sleep, or think they're tough enough to endure the countless hours of sleep they're losing each week. If you're sleeping over 5 hours a night, you aren't working hard enough. That's basically the implication. Hardly getting any sleep and being able to "suck it up and power through" is a stupid, tough guy mentality that's created a culture where it's viewed as a weakness if you require, God forbid, 7 hours or more of sleep. Anyone who brags they got 3 hours of sleep or stayed up …

Why Burnout Happens and How to Take Preventative Measures

Burnout has become a worldwide phenomenon over the years. It's one of those things that if you're not on the lookout for, it can creep up on you seemingly out of nowhere. It often affects high achievers who push themselves too hard. They think they can do anything and everything as long as they keep going and push through. Since you're here to obviously improve and better yourself, chances are you're just as susceptible to burnout as I was a little over a year ago.   What is burnout? Burnout is typically defined as a mental state of exhaustion whether it be physical, emotional, mental or all three at once. It can become a very serious issue if not taken seriously. You become disinterested in your daily life and have an overall negative outlook on the world. You become cynical, develop a detachment from your daily life and nothing seems to really matter to you anymore. You also feel tired all the time, which is what happened to me. No matter how much I slept, I was still …

20 Things You Can Do to Improve Your Life

Over the last 3 years, I've spent a lot of time reading about successful people's habits and routines that help them perform at such high levels. I figured it was a good place to begin learning how to try to put myself in the best position to do well and consistently learn something new. I knew nothing about these types of routines or at least never really thought about it because I was always in school. It was either I was in class or studying, hanging out with friends, or at soccer practice. That was really it. It didn't cross my mind to think of the best ways to prepare myself for the next day or make the most out my weekends, because I didn't have a job! I mean come on, at college, there was beer pong like 2 days a week. And then the weekend came. I had priorities alright?? It was way more fun to hang out with friends playing Mario Kart, FIFA 09-12 and Super Smash Bros, so whatever. But once I started my first job and realized how much time everybody wasted and how much …

Why Daymond John of Shark Tank Fame Should be Your Role Model if You’re Working on a Side Hustle or Want to Learn How to Invest

I briefly talked about Daymond John’s side hustle he worked on while he had a full-time job at Red Lobster in his early 20s. You may have heard of FUBU. It was kind of a big deal during the 90s in the hip-hop scene. But the reason why I love his story is because it’s so relatable to you and me.  He was just a regular guy who got a lucky break when LL Cool J wore a FUBU hat in a Gap commercial.  Within 8 years he went from a nobody, to creating one of the most recognized brands in hip-hop. Sure, it’s easy to say he was successful and brush it off like it was relatively easy and no big deal.  But as much as it may seem like an overnight success, it was anything but.  Like most of us, it was hard for him to move from having a concept or an idea of what he wanted to do to taking action on it. How many times do you hear about people saying “I thought of that before they did, I can’t believe they were so successful”.  Well in most cases, it was the simple difference …

Who This Blog is and is Not For

Oh hey, guys, what's up?  So I was thinking.  Since I'll probably, most likely, eventually and unfortunately, get some not so nice comments or a few crazy people here and there finding the blog, since it's a numbers game and all, I just want to make it as clear as possible who this blog is and isn't for. It's not a bash on anyone or anything, I just don't want to waste anyone's time, and I can only lead a horse so close to water with the advice I've learned. I started this blog not for the cure-all for people's financial solutions or a get rich quick scheme, but to show you how ridiculously easy it is to begin to learn how to invest patiently and intelligently without having to rely on a financial advisor if and only if, you're willing to put the work in.  If not, that's fine, you can learn all about index funds here too, but really it's meant to save yourself from financial advisors taking advantage of you, like mine did to me by investing in great companies, not just index …
